Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. The mother of Whitney Houston and her daughter began to sing professionally together at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the year Whitney was just fifteen years old. They performed the back vocals in Chaka Khan's track in 1978 Im Every Woman. Later, she provided backing vocals to Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls and her mother. The quality of her work as the lead vocalist in New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several major record companies including Arista who she signed in 1982 and was with them for the rest of her life. Whitney Houston, her debut album that debuted in 1985 was the top-selling album of the debut artist. The album All My Love was released in 1985 and became a number one single. Album was sold out in US 3,000,000 copies, and later went to 25,000,000 worldwide. It brought her first of her 6 Grammy Awards. Whitney, her album Whitney, released in 1987, featuring smash songs Where Do Broken Hearts go? and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, was a follow-up to her success from. But it came with The Bodyguard (1996) that established her as one of the best-selling albums in pop music. While the movie and the actress' performance were not much praised, her soundtrack album with her version of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was the top-selling single and albums for many months. The album sold over 44 million copies worldwide. The same year, she was married to Bobby Brown who was a previous New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown together on March 23, 1993. About this time her well-documented substance abuse began and by 1996, the singer had been using drugs on a daily basis.
Dana Bash also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz is an American reporter anchorwoman as well as political correspondent for CNN.
